This morning we were in the kitchen fixing breakfast and Rob was counting something out loud. He said, "One, two, three,..." and then Anna said, "Four, five, six!" I turned around and we both stared at her with a stunned look on our faces. Rob counted again, and again Anna finished. Then she said, "Five, four, three, two." Now I know she gets that from us because we often count down when we tell the boys to do something. But I didn't expect to hear her counting this early! She's just repeating words right now, but it is a little freaky to hear a fourteen-month-old counting!
Ben keeps getting nosebleeds, which freak him out, which then causes more nosebleeding. Last night he injured his toe and while he waited for Daddy to get the first aid kit he said, "I'm tired of bloody toes and a bloody nose!"
My silly kids :)

Memorial Day Trip
On Sunday we took a spur-of-the-moment trip down to Illinois. When you have three kids, planning a trip three days prior to leaving is "spur-of-the-moment." :) The Custom Shoppe closed down for a little over a week, so Rob had an eleven day weekend. Rob's aunt and uncle from Florida are visiting and his brother from Missouri were there, so we figured it was a good time to visit. We left after the morning service on Sunday and came back Wednesday morning.
After passing back nursery kids, we went home and everyone changed at warp speed, we packed up last-minute items, and then we all grabbed our bag lunches and headed out the door. The boys thought it was neat that they had their own little lunch, packed full of goodies I rarely give them. Ben ate through everything in the bag BUT the sandwich and was a little sneaky about stashing it by his booster seat so he could claim he ate it. That little stunt lost him a treat at the rest stop. Matthew savored his lunch and made it last pretty long, then ate his treat in front of little brother.
We spent Sunday evening with my parents and had a great time. The weather was nice, so the kids played in the backyard while Grandma grilled supper. Rob and the boys played some soccer while Anna played in the swing and tottered around after balls. The next day, we had breakfast and then played at the park. We headed off to Normal next to visit with Rob's family. We had a good time that day visiting with his parents, grandma (GG), great-aunt, aunt and uncle, and his brothers and their families. We kept the boys outside alot and they had a good time in GG's enormous backyard. I started teaching Matthew how to climb a tree. GG has a great climing tree that is perfect for a beginner. I'm sure it won't be long before he's scaling up the trees like a monkey. Since that's what I did as a little girl, I'm mighty tempted to join him! The higher, the better!
We went back to my parents' for the evening, bathed the filthy children, and attempted to get them to go to sleep. I didn't sleep much that night, which led to two days of headaches. My mom, who is an optician, gave the boys a brief exam at the optical place where she works and we discovered that Ben does need a full exam. I thought his vision was poor and I'm glad my mommy-instincts were right. We'll be getting him to the eye doctor pretty soon. I had him try on some frames and he looked pretty cute in them.
We headed back to Normal for the day (after stopping at McDonald's for life-giving liquid...I mean coffee....) and had a good time again with the relatives. (Okay, pause here...I am reminded of a great children's book called Bubba and Beau Meet the Relatives. If you've never read it, pick it up next time you're at the library. It's a hoot!) Rob's Missouri brother was in misery (sorry Dan, had to do it!) so we didn't see him, but everyone else was there. Rob and his dad showed the boys how to play pool and even Anna liked watching the balls move around. After lunch we took the boys to the Normal Children's Museum and they had a blast. Anna was napping and it was nice to be more one-on-one with the boys. Matthew and I even sat at a computer and played a game.
We went back for the afternoon and after supper visited Rob's grandparents, who are my most avid blog readers :) Then we headed back to Pontiac for the night. All of the kids were asleep when we got there, but Anna and Ben woke up for a bit and had a bath. Matthew, on the other hand, had to be carried upstairs sound asleep. He was most upset in the morning when he was still in his clothes :)
We left for home after breakfast on Wednesday and had a rough ride. I had a massive headache and the boys, who had been VERY good the whole trip, decided to let loose and be loud in the car. Thankfully, they took turns sleeping or the ride would have seemed twice as long. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel for lunch (seriously, fast food prices are just as expensive or more so than some sit-down places, so why not get better food for the same price?) We arrived home just in time for me to nap, the kids to run around, and Rob to prepare for the Wed. night kids program. Phew!
It was a good trip and I'll be posting pictures on Facebook. Right now, all three kids are napping and I think I will follow suit!

The Other White Meat?
Rob made pork ribs tonight on the grill (and if you're noting the time, you'll see that they finished WAY too early and we have a nice early supper!) Matthew absolutely loved them! He ate as many as Rob did, but was a little confused about them. First he asked, "Does pork come from porcupines?" Rob explained (again) what pork is and where it comes from. Then Matthew commented all through the meal, "Wow. This is really great chicken! This chicken is SOOO good! I just love this chicken!" And Mommy doesn't care what he calls it, as long as he eats well!

Silly Anna-bug
Miss Anna has been amusing Rob and I quite a bit this week with her silly little antics. She pointed to the phone the other day then put her hand up to her ear and said "Hi! Hi! Hi!" Later she was pushing the phone in her Little People House and saying "Hi!" as if she were answering the phone. Just tonight, she pointed to the phone, said "Hi!" then started jabbering in baby language like she was having a conversation. If I put her on the phone with a live person, however, she clams up and just smiles at the phone.
She's teething again, this time three teeth in the back. Hers seem to come in packs. She's not cranky, just needs her pacifier more often (usually only gets it at sleep times) and has wanted her special blankie. The blankie, by the way, was a new discovery for us. About a month ago, I noticed something on it and threw it into the laundry basket right before her naptime. I checked on her later and she had pulled it through the crib bars and was sleeping with it! Rob washed it on Sunday after she had an accident in the crib and went it came out of the dryer, she cuddled up in it and walked all over the house with it. And this is not a small blanket! It's a baby-sized quilt! The last few times we went to Illinois, she cried herself to sleep and we know why--she didn't have her blankie! Poor baby...Mommy just didn't know!
And, she has already become a tattle-tale. If the boys are doing something wrong, she'll run after them, point her finger, and yell "NO!" repeatedly. It's funny now.....
She finally says "bye" to Daddy. She also says "ball", "book", and tries to repeat other words. She likes to play with the boys, but mainly grabs their toys and tries to run away from them. She's pretty good about giving us things she finds that she's not supposed to have, but does occasionally run from us as well. It's really not too hard to catch her at this point.
And, finally, Anna is a carnivore. She loves any and all kinds of meat: pork chops, hot dogs, hamburger, fish, sausage, brats, chicken, you name it. She is eating fruit now, but mainly bananas. The only veggie I've seen her consume in any real quantity is broccoli. I don't think either of the boys were big on meat at this age. Rob just hopes she doesn't get gout :)

Rummage Sales
Today is the all-city rummage sales. Usually, my mom and sister come down for the event, but Mom came last weekend and my niece came down with something that causes vomiting and high fevers, so they stayed home. Poor Mandy...she had the whole car packed and ready to go. She went to pick up her husband and the baby decided to get sick all over the car. Makenzie is still running fevers today, so pray she gets better soon.
I decided to amend the garage sale list and go out this morning. I went for about an hour w/o the family and found a great sale with loads of Stampin UP! stuff. Usually when you find a sale with that much stuff, it's being sold by a demonstrator who knows what it's worth and charges you almost catalouge prices. I don't know if this lady was getting out of the business or just wanted to free up space, but she had everything going for low prices. I got over $100 worth of stamp stuff for $16.50. I'm giving up my monthly stamp night for it, but it's worth it! I was also looking for some skirts but didn't have any luck there. I did find quite a few books to add to our homeschool library, many of them Usbourne books for a quarter to fifty cents each. Not a bad haul!
We're just lounging around this afternoon. Rob hurt his back helping some friends move yesterday, so he's recovering. It's kind of chilly and windy outside, so neither one of us wants to take the boys out to ride bikes. Yesterday, Rob took all three of them outside to play while he grilled supper. That's the first time Anna has been given free reign in the grass and she had a ball! Dirt everywhere and a big grin to boot! I have two outdoorsy types and one who is more like me: enjoy the great outdoors from a screened in porch. (That would be Matthew.)

The Visit
My parents visited this past weekend and we had a great time with them. I could write this post in my words, but I'll let Matthew tell the story. He had to verbally compose a story during language arts this week about a visit.
"Grandma and Grandpa came to visit. Grandpa looks like a Flumper Flinklesnoz and Grandma looks like a Womper Elephant Flinklesnoz. We played games like Wii and Candyland. Grandma won Candyland but Ben and I did not cheat. Grandpa called us funny names. We went to Eberts. The best part of the visit was Grandpa calling us names and getting a present. I got a dinosaur (but it was really from Great Grandma) and some clothes. Ben got a monkey and Anna got a pink puppy. The funnest part was wrestling and playing with Grandpa and seeing Ben and Anna get their presents."
So there you go! We also got a new couch and love seat this weekend, which we love. We're all on decompression mode from the school year and getting used to a slightly new schedule. Rob works 6am-2pm and we do like it. I wasn't too keen on getting up with the kids by myself in the morning, but as with most things in life, I'm used to it now.
Rob got a new grill as a gift from me and has been having fun with it. He asked if I minded if he grilled out all summer...can't say as I do!

Graduation and Celebration
He did it. The big guy walked across the stage today and got his diploma. He's officially a college graduate. Now I can pull my diploma out as well and proudly display it next to his. Woo-hoo!!
Rob had to be on campus by 9am for pictures, so we trooped the kids out the door at 8:40 to make sure we were there in plenty of time. Matthew helped return Rob's post office key and then the kids and I walked around campus some waiting for the nursery to open. I showed them the dining hall, the football field, and they found every clump of dandelions in the area and gave away "flowers" to everyone they met. The nursery opened earlier than expected, so I got Ben and Anna settled then went to meet Rob as he was lining up. He had purchased a new Bible for Matthew and gave it to him at that time. Matthew was very proud of his new Bible :)
While talking to a few people, we found out that a lady from our church had passed away of a heart attack early that morning. She worked with us in the nursery and headed the interpreting at church. If you think of them, please pray for the Kuhlman family. She was in her 50's I'm guessing and has three grown daughters. It was quite a shock.
Matthew and I decided to head to the gym to settle into our seats. We were in the back row on an aisle, as requested. He was very overwhelmed by the number of people and demonstrated in many ways that he did NOT want to be there. But it was important to Rob that Matthew see Daddy graduate. Matthew sat as still as he could during the service, but it was just too much for a wiggly little boy. I had a few things to occupy him, but he tired of them quickly. I took him for a little walk during part of the Commencment address then we stayed in until we saw Rob get his diploma (which, of course, was in the last batch of graduates!) We stayed outside until the recessional, then Rob joined us. He went into a classroom to get his actual diploma and I picked up Anna and Ben. We waded through the crowds to get to the car, getting our picture taken and talking to a few people along the way. Then it was time for the family party!
We ate lunch at home then headed off to Madison. We took the kids to the zoo there, which is a free zoo. They had a ball and Anna is finally at the age where she could enjoy it as well. The highlight for all of us was being very close to a full-sized tiger. He was behind glass and paced in front of it. The boys were fascinated...I mean, who wouldn't be if you were that close (and safe) to a tiger! Anna enjoyed watching the praire dogs scamper all over in their exhibit and I think she would have joined them. She tried to catch a turtle that was swimming behind glass in the reptile house and was rather surprised when she couldn't touch him :) But her favorite animal was the python. She went nuts for that thing! I showed her the anaconda as well and she got excited about that big guy. No fuzzy bears or funny monkeys for my little girl....bring on the big snakes!
After the zoo we went out to eat. We had planned to take them to Chuck E. Cheese, but they were pretty tired, so we hit Red Robin instead. Rob and I hadn't been to one since we lived in Cali so it was a nice treat. Then we came home to prepare for a visit from Grandma and Grandpa Fulkerson, who will be here within the hour.
I don't think it has fully hit us yet, but Rob is done with the undergrad. Wow. God has been so good to us and we're so thankful that Rob made it through.

Day O' Grad Events
Today, the day BEFORE graduation, we attended a couple of grad events. This morning was the final chapel for the year and was dedicated to the graduates. Many of the students are gone anyway since the last finals were yesterday, so the only students still hanging around are grads, people performing at graduation, and those sticking around for summer school. Rob and I found babysitters, so I was able to attend with him. We had kind of intended it to be date-ish, but we picked up a friend of his who needed a ride and he hung around with us the entire time. **sigh** Still trying to get that make-up date in from a month ago....
Anyway, it was a nice chapel and several of the graduates/parents of grads gave testimonies. I received an Honorary P.H.T. for my efforts as a spouse. P.H.T. stands for "Pushing Hubby Through." I even have a certificate to prove it :) Afterwards, we had lunch in the MBBC cafeteria, courtesy of the college. The food was pretty good for institutional fair. Their new dining hall is very nice and roomy, feeling more like a buffet at a nice restaurant than a college dining hall.
Rob took me back home and then returned to school for rehearsal where his head spun around for over an hour. Thankfully, all the info they unsuccessfully tried to cram in there was on a handout, so we had the necessary info. I'm convinced some of the grads are graduating illiterate b/c a few had to be sent home to change before Baccalaureate tonight. (One of my MAJOR pet peeves is people who do not read info given to them and walk around clueless when there is no need to be clueless!!!)
We returned for the Baccalaureate service around 6:15pm. Rob needed to be there to line up at 6:30, which is the same time the nursery opened, and (God is so good) these locations were in the same building and almost the same hallway!!! The kids wandered around talking to grads until the nursery opened up. Poor Anna was so confused...she'd see a guy in his regalia and say "Da-da!" only to get a perplexed look on her face when she got close to the person. It was pretty funny. Matthew spoke with Dr. Jackson, Chair of the Teacher Education department, who was in his doctorate regalia, and asked him if he was graduating too. Dr. Jackson said that he hoped so :)
After getting the kids into the nursery, I left Rob to find a seat. I knew which side Rob was entering on, so I sat there and was joined by the wife, mother, and brother of the friend who was with us for chapel. I was very glad to have someone to sit with :) The service was very nice and I really enjoyed the sermon given by G.S. Nair, Co-founder of the Fundamental Baptist Mission to India. One thing I miss about California is all of the foreign accents, so it was music to my ears to hear an Indian accent again.
At the end of the service, I helped my friend figure out where to get her tickets for graduation and then found Rob. We picked up our children, who made up 3/4 of the kids in the nursery that night. Tomorrow, Matthew will attend graduation with me (so pray he's well-behaved!!) I put him in the nursery tonight b/c I didn't think he'd handle two services in a row. Another praise: the people running the nursery work in various children's ministries at church, so our kids knew them very well. That's always helpful for Ben, our shy one.
Tomorrow, the big guy graduates. I'm so proud of him. I bought him some blue and yellow flowers today (MBBC colors...and Cedarville's for that matter!) and a card. We'll head off for a family party tomorrow afternoon in Madison. I can't believe it's coming to a close. It has just been a bunch of events on the calendar, but it's really here. And then he starts seminary in the fall......which he keeps reminding me is different.....good different......

We'll head off for a family party tomorrow afternoon in Madison. I can't believe it's coming to a close. It has just been a bunch of events on the calendar, but it's really here. And then he starts seminary in the fall......which he keeps reminding me is different.....good different......

Final final
Rob took his lastest final ever (at least in undergrad work) this morning. He said it was pretty hard, but he thinks he did well. He has a B in this class, so he'd have to try pretty hard to fail :)
He did have lots of time to study. He sent me to bed at 7:30 last night w/a nasty headache, put the kids to bed at 8, and then had the night all to himself to study. My head is better this morning, thankfully. I don't get headaches very often, but when I do they are horrible and no medicine helps...just sleep.

Garage Sales
What I was looking for today: Couch in semi-decent condition and not uglier than a barn wall and a double stroller or wagon to help contain the wanderer so I can take the kids on walks by myself.
What I found today: A Bulls jacket for Ben, play-doh toys, a ball to ride on, two books, a stamp, a Backyardigans DVD, and some baked goods.
What I passed on: Institutional orange couches with plastic cushions. They were only $10.....but no.
**sigh** The hunt continues for reasonable furniture and containment/safety on wheels.....

One Final Down, One to Go
Rob took his Pauline Epistles final today and got a 91 on it, with some extra credit verses. He was able to quote some verses for extra credit, which he needed b/c his grade was on the edge. (He had a bad test score, which accounts for the low grade.) His prof wouldn't tell him the grade until Rob was finished quoting verses...very sneaky and exactly the kind of thing I would have done as a teacher :) He had a C- going into the final, so he passed the class. Woo-hoo! This was the only class we were concerned about. He has his Ethics final on Monday at 7:30am and he's done. Done. Wow.....thirteen years of work on an undergrad degree will come to a close. He spent three years here from 96-99, then worked on a math ed degree in Cali, then came here for three years to finish. Should take him about half the time to get his Master's of Divinity!! :)
